After increased demand from both students and staff, we have made investments in lecture recording facilities this summer, resulting in a 30% increase in the number of teaching spaces offering this feature, writes Karen Lee, Director of Strategy, Performance and Transformation in Estates & Commercial Services.

We have seen steadily increasing demand for lecture recording over recent years, with a  ten-fold increase in use over the last five years,and know that is an important facility for students. Working with colleagues in IT Services we aim to have all centrally-managed teaching spaces of capacity 50 or more equipped with recording facilities by Summer 2020.

This year for the first time we will be offering audio recording in a number of spaces as an alternative to video recording and will be seeking feedback from staff and students to help plan future provision and the optimum mix of video and audio.

Hannah May-Todd, SRC VP-Education, said: “The SRC knows that lecture recording is a hugely in-demand service for a number of support and academic reasons, so we're really happy to see the University invest in this software.  If you're a student and you want your lectures to be recorded, you can push for it by speaking to your lecturers and asking them to contact central timetabling (SMTT). You can also have your class representative bring this up at Staff Student Liaison Committee meetings and can encourage your lecturers to request a room with lecture recording capability.”
