Borrowing

How do I borrow and return items?

Use the self-service machines in the Library to borrow, renew and return books and other items.

There are also 2 external book return bins outside the Library.

Returning InterLibrary Loans

Return any items that we have obtained for you from another library to the ILL book return box beside the printers as you enter the Library.

Recalls

If someone else requests something you have on loan we will ask you to return it within a week. We will contact you to let you know the new due date.

This applies at all times, so if you are going to be away from campus for some time, it's a good idea to return your books before you go. Late returns will be subject to fines.

A fine of £20 or more on your Library account will prevent you from borrowing, renewing or requesting. See Fines and Charges.

Renewals

You can renew items up to 5 times by logging into your Library Account,

  • if the items are not already overdue
  • or have been requested by another Library user.

4-hour and 24-hour items cannot be renewed.

Renewing overdue items

If your books are already overdue, you cannot renew online. Visit the Welcome Desk on Level 2 or call on 0141 330 6704 if you need help.

InterLibrary Loans

You can apply to renew an item that we have obtained for you from another library. Please contact us at library-dds@glasgow.ac.uk.  If a renewal is possible, you will be notified of the new due date by email and a charge of £5.45 per item will be added to your Library record.
