7407   [Had], as it were for such mistere,
7408   Don on the cope of a frere,
7409   With chere simple, and ful pitous;
7410   His looking was not disdeinous,
7411   Ne proud, but meke and ful pesible.
7412   About his nekke he bar a bible,
7413   And squierly forth gan he gon;
7414   And, for to reste his limmes upon,
7415   He had of Treson a potente;
7416   As he were feble, his way he wente.
7417   But in his sleve he gan to thringe
7418   A rasour sharp, and wel bytinge,
7419   That was forged in a forge,
7420   Which that men clepen Coupegorge.
7421   So longe forth hir way they nomen,
7422   Til they to Wicked-Tonge comen,
7423   That at his gate was sitting,
7424   And saw folk in the way passing.
7425   The pilgrimes saw he faste by,
7426   That beren hem ful mekely,
7427   And humblely they with him mette.
7428   Dame Abstinence first him grette,
7429   And sith him False-Semblant salued,
