Thomas Arthur (fl. 1856-1876), bookseller, London:  sold book to William Euing.
William Euing (1788-1874), insurance broker, Glasgow:  purchased from Arthur 8 June 1869 according to Euing’s pencil acquisition note with price code on a1r “8 6 69 Arthur ah/f”;  Euing’s pencil inventory number “No 4196” on front pastedown (repeated on a2r);  confirmed in Euing's acquisitions inventory (University of Glasgow Library, MS Euing 49).
University of Glasgow:  presented by Euing in 1872 according to one of two University Library bookplates on front pastedown.
Binding: 19th-century vellum with fore-edge cover extensions;  yellow-edged leaves;  title and date tooled in black directly onto the spine;  wove endpapers.   Size:  291 x 198 mm.
Leaf size: 293 x 195 mm.
Annotations: 19th-century price in pencil “18/6” on front pastedown along with price codes “y/e” and (?)“P/v/-”.
Decoration: Nine-line initial “Q” on a2r supplied in gold and embellished with interlocking white foliage on a dotted background of blue, green and crimson;  similarly decorated initials on a4r, f7r, kk1r, m5r, o1v, p6v, s5v A1r, B7r.   In the lower margin of a2r is a green laurel wreath, inside which is a gold shield edged with black on a patterned crimson background;  within the shield is the figure of a grey-bearded man wearing a black hat, a knee-length black garment and grey hose, and carrying in his right hand a staff or halberd(?);  four lengths of rope (painted in purple/grey) are tied to the wreath and are arranged in loops or knots so as to form a pattern in the lower margin.
Imperfections: Wanting the preliminary unsigned gathering of two leaves [*] and the blank leaf a1.
