William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist:  purchased by Hunter at the Askew sale for £1.11.6 according to the annotated copy of the Askew sale catalogue in Cambridge University Library;  price confirmed in the partially annotated copy of the Askew sale catalogue in Glasgow University Library (shelfmark Mu36-c.8).

Binding: 18th-century dark brown morocco decorated with a single gold fillet and gold corner-pieces;  gold-tooled spine;  dark blue-edged leaves.   Size:  318 x 232 mm.

Annotations: Profusely annotated throughout in Latin in various 16th-century hands (mainly extracting keywords);  chapter numbers added in inner margins up to 20/6v (f. 188v) in a 16th-century hand, which has also supplied the foliation “1”-“221” beginning at gathering 4;  occasional underlining, pointing hands and “nota” marks;  guide-letter “H” supplied for opening initial on 4/1r (f. 25r);  running book numbers “I”-“VIIII” added on recto leaves;  marginal annotations in Italian in an 18th-century hand on 5/7v (f. 41v) and on 24/1r (f. 219r);  on 4/1r (f. 25r) two numbers in ink “27” and “20” (the latter scored through).
Decoration: None.
Imperfections: Wanting gatherings 1-3 containing the Tabula, and the final leaf 26/10 (f. 246) containing the Registrum.
