Binding: Italy, 19th-century gold-tooled parchment;  covers decorated with a border formed from fillets and two decorative rolls;  gold-tooled spine with red leather title labels;  dark blue endpapers;  all leaves mounted on paper guards, the original inner margins now almost entirely lost;  flyleaves have watermark of a bird perched on the top of three mountains, all within a circle.   Size:  214 x 150 mm.
Leaf size: 207 x 125 mm.
Annotations: Brief bibliographical descriptions in French in a 19th-century hand on verso of third front flyleaf;  possible pencil price code “m/s/-” on verso of front free endpaper.
Decoration: Initials, paragraph marks and capital strokes supplied in red throughout at an early date;  text throughout enclosed within double red ink rules, which were added after the leaves were guarded (see Binding);  four-line initial “I” on 1/1r supplied in red and decorated with elaborate calligraphic pen-work extending into inner margin - also executed after the leaves were guarded.
