William Hunter (1718-1783), physician and anatomist: purchased at the Morin d’Hérouville sale for £0.5.6 according to the annotated British Library copy of the sale catalogue - shelfmark S.C.S. 13(3).
University of Glasgow:  Hunterian bequest 1807;  Hunterian Museum bookplate and book label on front pastedown, with former shelfmark “X.4.14”.
Binding: Italy, 17th-century vellum;  manuscript spine title;  outer and middle leaves of each gathering guarded with thin vellum strips;  green-edged leaves;  some flyleaves have a watermark of a bird perched at the top of three overlapping mountains within a circle (similar to Briquet, 'Filigranes', no. 12250).   Size:  271 x 203 mm.
Leaf size: 268 x 200 mm.
Annotations: Frequent marginal annotations in various humanist hands in black or red ink - mainly extracting names;  occasional pointing hands and “nota” marks;  occasional underlining.
Decoration: Six-line initial “S” supplied in black ink on a3r;  several pages supplied with paragraph marks in red.
Imperfections: Wanting the blank leaf a1.
