Probation for Academic Staff
Probation for Academic Staff
* Please note that academic probation has been replaced by the Early Career Development Programme and is no longer open to new entrants*
The purpose of academic probation is to ensure that new Academic staffs are provided with the opportunity to familiarise themselves and develop within the academic environment and it also provides the University with the opportunity of ensuring that new staff members are capable of undertaking the work which they have been employed to do.
The Appointing Committee at interview stage decides whether new Academic Staff should complete a probationary period and how long this should be. Usually staff will undertake 3 years of probation unless research experience is limited in which case, the period will be 4 years.
