Disability Service information for new entrants for the 20/21 academic year

In light of the ongoing Covid-19 global pandemic, the Disability Service will use this webpage as a means of updating students who will be beginning their studies at the University in September 2020 and who wish to make contact with the Disability Service. This page will be reviewed on a regular basis and will provide details of the current position of the service.

Current position

As we are still operating within the 19/20 academic year, the service is currently unable to engage with incoming students through email or telephone enquiries. The current world situation has brought around changes at the University which mean that we are working to support current students through this very difficult time.

We aim to be in a position to look towards the new academic term once the upcoming assessment period has been concluded. This is due to finish on Friday 22nd May. This will then allow us to plan how we best support incoming students, and also to understand the longer term situation around Covid-19.

We thank you for your patience and understanding at this time.

This page will update regularly with ongoing developments please keep checking.

If you are a  student from England, Northern Ireland or Wales  it’s  important that you apply for  your Disabled students’ Allowance in the summer prior to the start of your course because a DSA claim can take  funding bodies up to 14 weeks to process from start to finish.

Student Finance England have confirmed that they will accept DSA Needs Assessments carried out remotely to help alleviate logistical difficulties with face to face meetings at present. Details of Student Finance England and how to contact your local assessment centre can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/disabled-students-allowances-dsas

When you have received your letter from the funding body advising you that you are now approved for funding, you will need to arrange a needs assessment appointment.   https://www.gov.uk/disabled-students-allowances-assessment-centre

Once you are a registered student  at Glasgow University you can ask the access centre to forward a copy of your needs assessment report to  us or you can send it to us yourself: disability@glasgow.ac.uk

As soon as you arrive in Glasgow please call us on 0141 330 5497/5121 to arrange an appointment with a disability adviser to discuss any additional support requirements, such as exam arrangements.
