Catholic Society

The Catholic Society is comprised of mainly Scottish students, aged between 18-22 years old. We meet weekly, usually we arrive early to share a meal together before the meeting, as a key theme of our society is fellowship. Each meeting begins with a prayer, and the main content is delivered by a member who has prepared a talk which is then followed by an open group discussion. The themes covered in meetings are generally proposed by individual members who wish to learn more about or better understand church teachings and issues we face as young, Catholics today. Occasionally we invite special guests who may be able to give us a better insight into a particular topic. Once a month we complete an act of service for other people, and another week each month is allocated to social events to allow our members to get to know each other better and develop friendships.

Meetings: Tuesdays at 6.30pm

Society of St Vincent de Paul (SSVP)

The members of the Society of St Vincent de Paul are committed to expressing their love of God through personal service to their neighbour and providing outreach to people who have contacted us with hardship issues. Our meetings begin with a short prayer and spiritual discussion led by Fr. Ross before reviewing the tasks we have done since the last meeting and allocating future work. We arrange collections every Sunday at mass under a rota system and also help take people to mass and really do anything that could help with any hardship whether it be providing food, financial assistance or friendship. What is good is that we always get to know the people we help and stay in contact with them afterwards. We are a relaxed and flexible group and everyone just does what they can when they can with their time and means.

Meetings: Fortnightly on a Monday at 5pm.

Legion of Mary

The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who serve the Church and their neighbours on a voluntary basis in about 170 countries. The purpose of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary’s and the Church’s work. The members participate in the life of the parish through visitation of families, the sick, both in their homes and in hospitals and through collaboration in every apostolic and missionary undertaking supported by the parish. Every legionary is required to carry out a weekly apostolic work in the spirit of faith and in union with Mary.

Meetings: Mondays at 6pm
