Options with a 2:2

So you’ve graduated or are on track to graduate with a 2:2, you’re not alone – the most recent figures published from HESA show that more than one quarter of graduates from 2015/16 graduated with a 2:2 or a 3rd class degree.

CAN I STILL DO A GRADUATE SCHEME?

Yes! Although you may not be eligible for all graduate schemes, there still are still plenty out there that don’t require you to have a 2:1, here are some examples;

CONSIDER A SMALLER ORGANISATION

According to HESA (2016) (PDF) 35% of new graduates were working at companies with fewer than 250 employers (SMEs) and one in five were working with organisations that have less than 50 employees. ScotGrad,  Adopt and Intern and Step all organise graduate internships with SMEs.

THINKING ABOUT POSTGRADAUTE STUDY?

Eligibility requirements differ across postgraduate study. Some universities are very flexible in their definitions of prior qualifications and experience.

Many universities are open to candidates on their individual merits and say so explicitly. They will consider your potential to succeed in postgraduate study based on how you sell your skills, knowledge, education, training and previous employment.

Think about your reasons for undertaking Postgraduate study carefully and be aware that not all recruiters who look for a 2:1 will accept a Masters degree as a substitute.

STILL NOT SURE WHAT TO DO?
