Administrative / Biographical History

David Paton Cuthbertson was born in Kilmarnock in  1900  and educated at the  University of Glasgow. He gained the qualifications BSc in  1921 ; MB ChB in  1926 ; DSc in  1931 ; and MD in  1937. Cuthbertson became a clinical biochemist at the  Glasgow Royal Infirmary from  1926-1934  and then a lecturer in physiological chemistry at the University of Glasgow between  1934-1945. Cuthbertson was then the Director of the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen from  1945-1965. He retired  1965  to Troon but remained senior research fellow at Glasgow Royal Infirmary between  1965-1989. Cuthbertson was awarded a CBE in  1957  and was then knighted in 1965. He died in  1989.
