Administrative / Biographical History
The Glasgow Schools Health Service was formed on the basis of 3 Acts of Parliament, passed in 1906 , 1908 and 1913 . The last of these authorised the provision of medical treatment, in addition to the inspection of school pupils. The Govan School Board and the Glasgow (City and Barony) School Board were responsible for the service in their respective areas until the 1918 Education (Scotland) Act replaced them with the Glasgow Education Authority which in turn was abolished in 1930 when its functions were transferred to Glasgow Corporation.
