Academic Policy & Governance (APG) is a new unit formed from the former Senate and Academic Collaboration Offices. (See APG Welcome page for further information.)

Annual Monitoring

  • is an essential element of the University’s Quality Assurance and Quality Enhancement processes.
  • allows Schools, Colleges and the University to ensure that the courses and programmes we deliver meet the expectations of staff and students
  • continually look for opportunities to develop and enhance provision.
  • closing the feedback loop and ensuring that actions and outcomes are reported to colleagues and students.

The management of Annual Monitoring is devolved to Colleges and is managed locally by School and College Quality & Enhancement Officers.

Due to the impact of Covid-19, Annual Monitoring will continue in a modified form for the review of academic sessions 2019-20 and 2020-21. Our existing Annual Monitoring arrangements have been adapted to incorporate a lighter touch focussing on key issues including reflection on the Student Experience and student performance. The revised AM1 Form reflects the preference for Annual Monitoring to be reported at School level with the option, where appropriate and with the agreement of the College Quality & Enhancement Officer, to permit more formal reporting on a more detailed level i.e. from units of learning.

The Process

The streamlined process which is in place for the review of learning and teaching during 2021-22 is set out in the Timescales document below.

Proformas

Templates for annual monitoring reports are provided below. AQ&ER1 should be used for Annual Monitoring Summaries for course, subject and School level reports. AQ&ER2 is for College Annual Monitoring Summaries.

Good Practice

Annual Monitoring is about assuring quality but it’s also about ensuring the University is constantly enhancing its provision. A key element of enhancing our practice is learning from each other.

More information about good practice can be found at the University Good Practice web pages.

Outcomes

Academic Standards Committee receives each of the College Annual Monitoring Summaries and produces a summary report of these, noting What Went Well, and Themes for University Attention.

Responses to the Themes for University Attention are reported back to ASC later in the session.
