Job title: Manager – Student Engagement Team

About me: I have worked in Education now for over 10 years with a focus on supporting students on their journey through University life.

I worked previously for an International Study Centre as the Head of Student Services, so I have great understanding of the challenges of settling into a new life in the UK our overseas students face.

Through my career so far its been hugely rewarding to help students achieve their goals and I look forward to continuing that with students here at Glasgow.

My role here at is to manage the front-line teams who will guide our students through that journey with dedicated support and a programme of engaging information and cultural events.

My focus is to ensure that our students have the best possible experience and are happy to call Scotland home during their studies.

In my spare time I enjoy walking my Dogs, Hillwalking, Kayaking and Running and supporting Manchester United.

Job title: Student Life and Engagement Administrator

Core working hours for ISS Team: Monday, Wednesday & Friday 9-5

About me: I have recently joined the International Student Support team as their administrator, and I am also working with the Peer Wellbeing Support team – both of which are very exciting!

I am a recent History graduate of the University of Glasgow, and I previously worked in the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery, in a Front of House position.

I am really looking forward to working with both teams, supporting them, and bringing in some of my own ideas.

I love living in Glasgow, so I am very excited to help promote the city around the world. Away from work, I enjoy reading, drawing and going to gigs/music events.

Jo Bennett

Job title: International Student Adviser

Core working hours: Mon: 9.00-16.30, Monday - Friday

About me: My career background since leaving university has been in welfare and advice, and I have worked as an International Student Adviser for over 17 years now, 7 years of which I have worked at University of Glasgow.

I enjoy my work here meeting students and helping them with their queries and supporting them during their time studying here.

I moved to Scotland around 7 years ago and spend my spare time studying on my part-time PG Diploma in Integrative Psychotherapy, meeting friends, taking mindfulness walks and appreciating nature, and travelling to explore new places and ways of living.  I also have beloved pets and love to hear about other people's pets too!

Lisa Milne

Job title: International Student Adviser

Core working hours: Mon: 9.30-14.30, Tue-Fri: 9.30-17.00

About me: My career started out in hotel management after University and then I progressed to international student recruitment, mainly in East Asia. I really enjoyed the travel, seeing new places and getting to meet students and their families in their own cities.

Since 2010 I have been an International Student Adviser at the University of Glasgow. I love meeting students at the start of term during our Welcome & Orientation activities then seeing them progress all the way to graduation.

A main part of my role, as well as providing immigration advice, is to manage our Welcome Team who support our newly arrived international students at the start of term. We organise information sessions, fun events and a welcome desk so students can reach out with any questions.

In my spare time I am always out walking whether it be sunshine or rain, I love the outdoors and Scotland is the perfect place to explore.

Lisa

Jill Moore

Job title: International Student Adviser

Core working hours: Mon-Wed: 09:00-17:00

About me: I have been working in student support and advisory roles in Higher Education for 16 years.  I joined University of Glasgow’s International Student Support team as an International Student Adviser in 2010.

One of my favourite parts of my role is collaborating with international students and their family members on project work.  Over the years, I have led collaborations with spouses & partners of international students as part of our International Family Network.  Our projects have resulted in an International Family Day with members of UofG services and local organisations present to inform families about university and community social integration opportunities. We also produced a guidebook on living in Glasgow as a dependant of an international student - researched and created by my brilliant project team, who were all themselves dependants of our international students.

More recently, I have enjoyed collaborating with 3 of our international students who were selected, from over 200 applicants across the UK, to be part of a group of 12 new Ambassadors on the UKCISA #WeAreInternational Student Ambassador Programme for 2021-2022.  When leading these projects, I am reminded how incredibly talented our international students and their families are and that we have a shared commitment to enriching the international student experience for those who choose to study with us.

Melanie Sangha

Job title:  International Student Adviser

Core working hours: Thursday and Friday

About me: I have been an International Student Adviser for around 18 years, starting off my career in a further education college (where I also did recruitment and travelled to Russia and South East Asia) and then moving to work in another university.

I've been at Glasgow since 2016, and as a Glasgow graduate myself, I'm passionate about helping students to make the most of their university experience. I love that I have balance between the more serious side of student support, such as immigration, and the fun side of helping students settle into life in Glasgow, such as welcome and orientation activities.

My best work day ever was when we took 60 students to walk part of the West Highland Way!

Outside of University life I am a personal trainer and love to be outdoors and making the most of the beautiful Scottish countryside, finding new walks to go on with my family and dog.
