In 2011 the Contemporary Art Society donated three works by Glasgow-based artist Andrew Kerr (b. 1977) to The Hunterian’s permanent collection. Those works depict impromptu still-life arrangements within the artist’s studio.

They are shown here alongside prints, drawings and paintings from our collections, by artists including Bonnard, Morisot, Sickert and Rembrandt. Kerr has selected these works in part for their intimations of the to-and-fro between daily life in the studio and in the outside world, a subject with which his own paintings are concerned.

The historical works are shown as mounted for previous Hunterian exhibitions - a nod to the material lives of artworks, and their passage from studio to collection, storage to gallery.
