Viewed in a row, William Kentridge's charcoal drawings suggest the flicker of flip-books or the seriality of prehistoric cave paintings. In this talk, explore how Kentridge's 'stone-age' animation techniques connect to the past and influence our own perceptions of time.
Speaker Bio:
Tamara Trodd lectures at the University of Edinburgh in twentieth-century and contemporary art, with a special focus on photography and artists' film. She gained her PhD in 2005 from University College London. Before joining the University of Edinburgh in 2010, she worked at the universities of St. Andrews, Glasgow, and Cambridge, where she was Fellow of Lucy Cavendish College (2009-2010). She has held the Philip Leverhulme Prize since 2013. She is also the editor of Screen/Space: The Projected Image in Contemporary Art, published in 2011.
