Rembrandt
The Hunterian is planning a major exhibition, ‘Rembrandt and the Passion’, for the autumn of 2012. This exhibition will focus on one of our masterpieces, Rembrandt’s ‘Entombment’, which formed part of the founding bequest of Dr William Hunter. Exhibition Curator Peter Black will be available to discuss our plans for this ambitious exhibition.

New Acquisitions
The Hunterian continues to add works to the collections through gifts, purchase and bequest. Pamela Robertson, Senior Curator (Art Gallery), will present two important recent acquisitions, the striking portrait of ‘Fraülein Engelhardt’ by Marie-Louise von Motesiczky (1906 – 1996), and a previously undocumented copper and enamel candlestick from the mid 1890s by Margaret and Frances Macdonald.

Donal Bateson, Senior Curator (Museum), will introduce a selection of recently-acquired coins and medals and the personal stories attached to them. These include a rare Russian platinum 3 roubles, a group of 19th century prize University medals, medals by Malcolm Appleby and a French medal of Douglas Haig.

Research
Research is an ongoing activity at The Hunterian, both curator-led and in support of colleagues and students within and outwith the University. Dr Nicky Imrie, Postdoctoral Researcher, will introduce an important current project, a major investigation into the architecture of Charles Rennie Mackintosh, which is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

Colour, Rhythm and Form
The Hunterian runs a varied exhibition programme drawn from the permanent collections and external sources. These are mounted in Gallery 2 and in the Focus Space in the Main gallery – currently showing ‘The Art of the Poster’. Exhibition Curator Sarah Skinner, will provide a brief introduction to ‘Colour, Rhythm and Form: J. D. Fergusson and France’ at 7.00pm and 7.30pm.
