Top-Up Programme

Top-Up is a pre-entry programme that has been preparing pupils applying for, or considering applying for, higher education since 1999.

Top-Up takes place in FOCUS West and some west of Scotland Local Authority Target Schools.

S5 and S6 pupils take part in 10 in-school sessions between November and March, helping you to develop essential study skills. You will also attend a campus visit during February or March when you take part in a lecture, seminar and workshop. Participants also complete a written assignment from a choice of five academic subjects.

Top-Up will develop your skills in:

  • Time management
  • Critical thinking and debating
  • Critical reading and effective note taking
  • Taking part in a lecture and note-taking
  • Preparing and participating in debate
  • Preparing for and participating in a seminar
  • Planning, researching and completing a written assignment

Apply for a job as a WP Postgraduate Tutor.  For further information, please contact Kelly on rio-topup@glasgow.ac.uk

If you successfully complete the programme by securing BBB or above, you may benefit from an adjusted offer of entry to study at the University of Glasgow.  Other Scottish Universities also recognise your Top-Up success and may take it into consideration when considering your application.

Please contact Kelly to find out more or email rio-topup@glasgow.ac.uk

Top-Up prepares you for making the transition to university study and our research indicates that you should perform to a higher standard in your first year and be more likely to complete your degree than comparable students who don't do Top-Up.
