The tour will visit our animal rooms (birds and fish). It is mainly aimed at potential students of the MSc Animal Welfare Science, Ethics and Law, but also others who might be interested to use the facilities for their research. It will give an insight into the challenges presented when looking after research animals and how to overcome these challenges.

This is an opportunity to tour active research labs and meet researchers who host laboratory-based dissertation projects which would be especially relevant for students considering taking a laboratory PhD after Masters studies.

On this tour, you will get a hands-on visit to the labs and equipment used for exercise, metabolic and body composition testing that students will encounter on the MSc Sport and Exercise Science and Medicine programme.

Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation Tour, Sir Graham Davies Building
Meeting Point: 1.30pm at IIII Stand in GUU Drawing Room, Level 1

Please note: places are limited to 10 and will be available on a first come, first-served basis. 

The tour will be based in the Sir Graham Davies Building where Parasitology, Bacteriology and Immunology researchers are based. Participants will have a tour of the labs where MSc students undertake projects and be introduced to specialist facilities in the Institute. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with members of staff who run these facilities.

Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology & School of Psychology Tour
Meeting Point: 1.30pm INP Stand, GUU Drawing Room, Level 1

The tour will include a visit of several brain imaging and psychology labs. Participants will see the MRI & MEG scanners, a TMS lab, as well as body and face capture systems. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with members of each lab.

This tour is run jointly with the College of Science and Engineering

School of Simulation & Visualisation Tour at the Glasgow School of Art
Meeting Point: 1.45pm at the College of Life Sciences Stand, GUU Drawing Room, Level 1  

Students on the MSc Medical Visualisation & Human Anatomy will be based at the School of Simulation & Visualisation’s facilities in Glasgow media quarter for the first semester of their studies.  During this tour, you’ll be able to visit the School’s teaching studios at Pacific Quay, talk to staff and see examples of past student projects.

Critical Care at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing
Meeting Point: 1.15pm SoMDN stand in the GUU Drawing Room, Level 1

We will be delighted to welcome you on a tour of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) and particularly the Critical Care Department. You will have the opportunity to attend a live lecture to allow you to observe first-hand a component of our MSc Critical Care on-campus programme and be able to meet our other education team members (note: an online version of the programme was launched Sept 2019).

The Clinical Teaching Fellows will meet you at the School of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing stand in the Glasgow University Union and escort you to the Teaching & Learning Centre on the QEUH Site, before showing you all the best places to have coffee in the stunning atrium in the main hospital.

Epidemiology at our Garscube Campus. Institute of Biodiversity, Animal Health & Comparative Medicine

Meeting Point: 1.15pm at IBAHCM in GUU Drawing Room, Level 1

Students interested in studying MSc Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases of Antimicrobial Resistance or simply just those interested in visiting our Garscube campus are welcome to join the tour to visit some of IBAHCM’s labs there. We will visit microbiological facilities – the OHRBID lab (One Health Research in Bacterial Infectious Diseases) and parasitology laboratories, all located within the Jarrett, McCall and Urquhart buildings. Students will have the opportunity to see the facilities and speak with researchers and students based there.

Transport to and from the University will be provided.

Human Nutrition New Lister Building Tour, Glasgow Royal Infirmary
Meeting Point: 1.30pm at Human Nutrition Stand in the GUU Drawing Room, Level 1

The tour will include a visit to the New Lister Building at the Royal Infirmary where most of the teaching on this course will take place.  You will have a tour of both the teaching and research facilities.  This will include our laboratories used for nutritional, metabolic and microbiome research and our human study facilities and metabolic suite.   You will learn about our approach to teaching and research and be able to interact with members of staff and PhD students.
