Climate Law and Governance Day is the major academic and policy side event to COP26, and it will be held in cooperation with the University of Cambridge and the University of Strathclyde under the auspices of the Climate Law and Governance Initiative (CLGI), which is a world-leading partnership of law and governance faculties, expert institutes, international organizations, lawmakers, government delegates and practitioners. CLGD will feature a range of high-level plenaries addressing various aspects of climate change law and governance and sixteen specialist sessions including expert panels, roundtable discussions and workshops.

The sessions in the three events will focus on four main pillars of COP26:

  • Exploring the challenges and opportunities linked to the implementation of the Paris Agreement;
  • innovating legal and governance instruments for high ambition implementation;
  • engaging civil society and legal community in advancing climate resilience and climate justice; and
  • Exploring the legal tools and obstacles in promoting climate neutral investment and finance.

The series of events will be chaired by the renowned legal scholars on climate change law and high-profile policy makers and are set to take place in a hybrid format featuring in-person as well as online sessions.
