This workshop will highlight the use of fragrance materials by artists from the mid-twentieth century to the present day, and is hosted by art historian Nikki Kane and fragrance designer Clara Weale.

During the workshop, we will smell key fragrance materials, molecules and formulations connected to the artworks we discuss. As well as learning about how scent can be formulated and disseminated in art contexts, we will also discuss the sensory experiences of art more broadly.

This workshop is open to all, and no prior knowledge is required to participate.

Nikki Kane is a Lecturer in the School of Culture and Creative Arts at the University of Glasgow. Clara Weale is a Perfumer and Scent Designer, who founded A Library of Olfactive Material, a not-for-profit resource for scent education, experience, and experimentation.

Art / Scent is part of ‘Thinking Culture’, a cultural programme supported by the School of Culture & Creative Arts.
