Rookh Horn Quartet:

Lauren Reeve-Rawlings
Ian Smith
Stephanie Jones
Andy Saunders

Glasgow-based ensemble the Rookh Horn Quartet is made up of four professional French horn players who aim to expand horn quartet repertoire, working with composers to commission new works. We are delighted to welcome them back - the quartet formed and was named here in this series, performing a new commission by Dr Jane Stanley. The Rookh Quartet returns with a programme that opens with an arrangement of an experimental piece of mid-18th century harpsichord writing, and ends with the sound of four horn players letting their hair down in full heavy metal mode. Between them is music that explores the softer, more reflective side of the instrument, with Alisson Kruusmaa’s spacious writing, Drew Hammond’s jazz influenced work, and Lynda Nicholson’s new three-movement quartet which was written when the Covid pandemic was at its peak. Louise Harris’s new work for quartet and electronics completes the programme. Don't miss this exceptional bunch!
