Tell us a fun fact about yourself

I enjoy traveling and exploring new places, home and abroad. In the past 3 years I've visited more than 20 countries across 3 continents, including 8 US states. For one trip I cycled from London to Paris in a day!

Tell us about your career journey so far

I had 3 jobs through university: a part time role, a 14 month industry placement and a voluntary position. Near the end of my degree I was fortunate, and experienced, enough to be offered my current job

What was your favourite subject in school and why?

Gym class! It is important to keep active and give your brain a rest. I always feel more mentally energetic after getting up and moving about. Useful for getting through those tough classes.

What subjects/qualifications are useful for your role?

Computing and data science degrees are the most prevalent in my role, as these develop a keen sense problem solving ability Information security degrees are becoming more common.

What is a normal day in your role like?

Data, lots of data! Usually searching through event records to create tools to identify suspicious activity. Investigators use these to look for attempts at stealing sensitive information or money.

What is your favourite thing about your job?

I'm always learning something new. Technology is a fast paced industry, cyber even more so, especially within a top tier investment bank. I find this helps keep me engaged, focused and happy.

Can you suggest an activity that could be done at home that illustrates an aspect of your work?

https://cyberskillslesson.com/ is a nice online resource where you can work through guided lessons to learn about various techniques.

The National Cyber Security Centre run a great program called CyberFirst which I'd encourage schools to get involved in: https://www.ncsc.gov.uk/cyberfirst/overview
