What types of collaboration are possible?

A number of different forms of collaboration are possible. These include, but are not limited to, the following.

  • Articulation
  • Capacity Strengthening/Building
  • Distance Delivery
  • Distance Learning or ‘E-learning’
  • Double/Multiple Degrees
  • Franchising
  • Hybrid
  • Joint Degrees – Research
  • Joint Degrees – Taught
  • Joint Delivery
  • Research Collaborations
  • Staff Mobility
  • Student Mobility
  • Validation

These are listed alphabetically for ease of reference. More information on each form including information on the relevant approval route and examples of current agreements is available by following the relevant links above. The respective responsibilities of the University and the partner institution will differ depending on the form of collaboration, for example responsibilities in relation to student recruitment and selection; regulation; programme design and approval; programme delivery; academic regulations; the quality of the student learning experience; the standards of the credits/award and financial matters. There are also variations in the complexity of the partnerships and in the time required for the development and establishment of partnerships. A proposed partnership may encompass more than one form of collaboration. If this is the case, then you should familiarise yourself with the different models and their implications for your collaboration.

If you are unsure about the nature of your proposed collaboration or the relevant approval process please contact Our Staff for further guidance.

Any initiatives which fall outwith the models listed will require full consideration by Senate.

The University will not normally enter into any franchise or new validation arrangements. Serial arrangements are not permitted (i.e. where a partner organisation sub-contracts University of Glasgow provision to another institution). If you wish to pursue either of these models please contact the Academic Collaborations Office in the first instance.
