Alumnus leads Green Party Official Opposition

Peter Bevan-Baker (BDS 1984) never imagined that he would move to Canada - or move from oral surgery to orator.

Feeling insufficiently disliked as a dentist (his words), Peter decided to embark on a political career. After nine failed attempts as a Green Party candidate dating back to 1993, Peter finally won election to the Prince Edward Island (PEI) legislature as leader and sole representative of the Green Party in 2015. Four years later following the recent general election, he finds himself joined by 7 colleagues who collectively form the Official Opposition in the PEI parliament – a first for the Green Party in North America. Peter states,

“Life is so delightfully unpredictable. I am a truly lucky man, doing work about which I am passionate and that has provided me with not only a second career but an unprecedented opportunity to learn, and to serve my community every day.”

Many congratulations to Peter on this fantastic career achievement, and for being such an inspiring UofG World Changer!
