GSF in Action 2020

Join the Glasgow Science Festival team with an exciting opportunity to collaborate, create and deliver a highly engaging STEM event for families, in partnership with the Botanic Gardens.

PhD students from the Colleges of Science & Engineering and MVLS are invited to join our extended training scheme, taking place throughout March to June 2020. This will involve three days of development working, one practice session, one day of delivery and some additional small group working in your own time. Delivery will be in June, programmed as part of Glasgow Science Festival 2020.

Throughout the course you will develop useful skills such as:

  • Effective group working
  • Techniques to support the translation of scientific terminology to age and audience-appropriate language
  • Exploration of the different forms of public engagement activities
  • Event management and logistics
  • Development and delivery of high quality STEM engagement content
  • Project and budget planning
  • Simple but effective ways to promote the event through social media channels

Please register your interest via our online application form here, telling us why you would like to take part in the training scheme and how you would intend to make use of the learning. Any further enquiries about the course can be made using the same form.

Deadline to apply: Thursday 27th Feb 2020, 17:00

We look forward to welcoming you to the course. Please note that participants must commit to all dates. Due to the nature of the training, learning is progressive and builds directly on previous elements. Therefore, it is not possible to catch up on a missed day. Please only apply if you can attend all sessions.

When you sign up for the course, you are applying to attend 4 training sessions and 1 delivery session (either Saturday 13th June or Sunday 14th June).
