Join us at our first Big Brave event to listen to the career story of Ewen MacAskill, the Defence and Intelligence Correspondent for The Guardian and a University of Glasgow Alumni. While based in the United States, he was involved in preparing the Edward Snowden revelations concerning the National Security Agency (NSA) for publication liaising with Snowden and his contact, Glenn Greenwald, who had brought the story to the attention of then Guardian US editor Janine Gibson. As a result of his reporting on Global surveillance disclosures, he was named co-recipient of the 2013 George Polk Award. The same reporting also contributed to the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service awarded jointly to The Guardian and The Washington Post in April 2014.

Ewen will talk about the valuable lessons he has learned from his long and award-winning career as a journalist. He will discuss how reporting the Edward Snowden cases was a pivotal moment in his career and enlighten us with the lessons he learned from reporting on this ground-breaking historical event. This is an opportunity to hear how Ewen’s career started here at the University of Glasgow and how he went from a student of Modern History and Politics to a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist.
