Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Title: Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Date: Monday 7th August 2017

Time: 7pm

Venue: Waterstones, Sauchiehall Street

Speaker: Angela Lewis

The Grenfell Tower fire and recent terrorist attacks in London and Manchester have highlighted both the physical and psychological impact of major disasters. Based on years of hands-on experience in the Navy Coastguard helicopters, Angela will be sharing her knowledge and insights on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), dealing not only with the victims of disasters and medical emergencies, but the impact on trauma for those people working in the emergency services. She will be discussing what PTSD really means for those involved, its causes and long history - along with the difficulties in getting it recognised as a serious medical condition, and some of the issues involved in treating those who are affected.

Since leaving the Navy last year, Angela has set up her own business as a specialist trauma trainer, coaching and advising the emergency services and organisations across the UK in a bid to promote better understanding of PTSD and related conditions, and to encourage better care for those who are at risk.
