Employer Talks
Lectures or career talks delivered by external organisations at the University as an integrated or additional aspect to an academic programme are an easy way to engage in work-related learning.
Organisations benefit by raising the profile of their organisation and the types of roles available within the business as well as gaining access to potential future employees. Students will gain an understanding of how skills and knowledge are used in the work place, opportunities available to them within a sector and allows students to explore the practical application of the knowledge they have been acquiring in the classroom.
These informal Q&A sessions can provide valuable opportunities for students to find out more about potential future career routes they may aspire to and to expand their professional networks.
Case Study: MSc Political Communication
MSc Political Communication- hosts the David Muir Speaker Series involving Alumni and political consultant David Muir along side a range of high profile speakers from the world's of media, politics and communications. Previous speakers include:
- Gary Gibbon, an award-winning journalist and Political editor for Channel 4 News.
- Joe Rospars, founding partner and Creative Director of Blue State Digital.
- Nick Pearce, Director of the Institute for Public Policy Research and Gavin Kelly, CEO of the Resolution Foundation
- Joel Benenson is the only Democratic pollster in history to have succeeded in three winning presidential campaigns
February 2017 saw 2 former Alumni Lucia Hodgson, speechwriter at Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and Alison Jones, Marketing and Communications Manager at BIDs Scotland visit the University to talk to the students about their career paths, how their MSc helped them and their current roles.
Case Study: LLM International Law
LLM International Law - hosts a series of seminars to give students an opportunity to hear from practitioners working in different fields of international law, to learn about potential careers in the field, and to meet with individuals and organisations that could be relevant to their careers. Speakers in 2016-17 included:

- Joanna Keating (International Development Team, Scottish Government)

Case Study: MSc International Competition Law & Policy
In 2016 the MSc International Competition Law and Policy established a new seminar series to provide students with the opportunity to hear from and engage with experts in the field. Speakers to date have included:
