CAS and DES information for Tier 4 visa holders

Further information is available regarding Tier 4 Student Visa Holder Responsibilities

What is a CAS?

Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) will provide you with 30 of the 40 points awarded for your Tier 4 visa application.

For new students applying for Tier 4 visas

Once you accept an unconditional offer, the Admissions Team will issue you a CAS around three months prior to the start of your study. If you accept an unconditional offer within three months of the start of your study, a CAS will be issued within three working days of your unconditional offer being accepted.

CAS details are sent by email and the 14 digit CAS reference number issued to you is required to be submitted as part of your Tier 4 visa extension application.

For current students extending Tier 4 visas

For CAS extensions to Tier 4 visas, the Graduate School will approve and confirm your study details with the Admissions Team who issue the CAS.

CAS details are sent by email and the 14 digit CAS reference number issued to you is required to be submitted as part of your Tier 4 visa extension application.

Where can I find a CAS extension application form?

Please download and print a copy of the CAS extension application form‌. Hard copies are also available from the Graduate School office or you may request a copy from the Graduate School via email.

Prior to submitting the form for completion and final approval to the Graduate School, please fully complete PART 1 of the CAS extension application form and ensure one of your PhD supervisors (PGT Convenor for PGT students or Advisor of Studies for Undergraduate students) sign the Supervisor Signature College Requirement section at the bottom of PART 2 to confirm their approval of your extension.

When should I request the CAS extension application form?

Check the expiry date of your current visa and make your CAS extension application well in advance of this date. You may start preparing for your visa extension application 4 months in advance.

The CAS extension application form‌ must be completed and submitted to the Graduate School office for approval in person or via email before a CAS can be issued. Please bring your current passport and visa for verification when you submit your form or provide scanned copies via email. Please allow 10 working days for your CAS to be processed by the Graduate School.

If you are leaving the UK to apply for your visa in your home country, please ensure you complete and submit an Application for Approved Leave of Absence‌ prior to your departure.
