ISSF Public Engagement

Wellcome and the University of Glasgow have agreed that a key strategic area of ISSF3 awards will be to help embed and expand a culture of public engagement.

The University’s Inspiring People Changing the World strategy prioritise engagement at the heart of its mission.

“To bring inspiring people together and create a world-class environment for learning and research, empowering staff and students to discover and share knowledge that can change the world.”

ISSF3 working through its Public Engagement Subcommittee Remit and Structure will enhance the current cross-disciplinary and collaborative engagements with our research programme through the following key activities:

MVLS Engagement Team – supporting MVLS / Wellcome researchers in developing their skills and opportunities to create and share the learning from quality and impactful engagements. To learn more of these activities visit MVLS Engage.

Enabling Public Engagement - supporting researcher public engagement through a variety of initiatives including:

Engagement Fund - Flexible funding awards to help develop, deliver, evaluate and support engagement activities or to provide researcher training and skills development support that will help embed a robust culture of engagement.

Public Engagement Awards - established to reward and recognise those committed to engaging the public with the University of Glasgow’s research.

Training, Skills Development, Sharing good practice - new public engagement channels including Yammer groups, forums and surgeries. Scoping survey to assess training needs, new repository for shared resources, and the development of tailored training and guidance materials.

ScotPEN – a scoping meeting on 26 June 2017 hosted at the University of Aberdeen offered strong support for the establishment of a new Scottish network that connects and supports those strategically directing and enabling others to deliver public engagement for research.
