Funding available to support translation and commercialisation of biomedical and life sciences research

The University of Glasgow Translational Research Initiative (TRI) is driving research translation through coordinated access to expertise and £1.8M of funding from the Medical Research Council, Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council and Wellcome Trust.

With over 140 projects funded, the TRI supports the generation of technology demonstrators, patent filings, industry interactions and strategic research applications. In addition to providing expertise and project management support, the TRI is undertaking a series of “Opportunity Audits” across MVLS, providing researchers with advice and feedback to enable translational research development, along with delivering bespoke training and mentoring opportunities for researchers at all career stages.

Most recently, the University has been awarded £800k over a 2-year period under the Wellcome Trust Institutional Translational Partnership Award (iTPA) scheme. Managed through TRI, the iTPA will provide a dedicated resource to help overcome barriers to translation, and fund early stage translational projects through the Wellcome Trust Early Concept Development (WT ECD) fund.

WT ECD funding will be available from 2nd March 2020 and the call will be open from the middle of December 2019. Information can be found on the MVLS Funding webpages, or by contacting Chris Mort.
