New parasite exhibit announced at the National Museum of Scotland

The Wellcome Centre for Molecular Parasitology, within the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, has been working with the National Museum of Scotland, colleagues at the Wellcome Centre for Anti-Infectives Research in Dundee, and parasitologists from the University of Edinburgh, on an exhibit that will highlight Scottish research on neglected tropical diseases. ‘Parasites: Battle for Survival’ will explore the Scottish fight to eradicate five neglected tropical diseases; malaria, guinea worm, sleeping sickness, schistosomiasis and leishmaniasis.

The interactive exhibition will highlight contemporary research in Scotland while examining the Scottish history of identifying and treating tropical disease. The exhibit is aimed at secondary school students and will open at the end of 2019. Each institution has partnered with a local secondary school and is working with students to co-create content for the exhibition.
