Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation researchers travel to Kenya to speak at KENBOP 2018 course
Researchers from the Wellcome Trust Centre for Molecular Parasitology (WTCMP) and University of Glasgow-MRC Centre for Virus Research, both within the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, recently travelled to the Kenya Medical Research Institute Wellcome Trust Research programme in Kilifi, Kenya to speak on this year’s Kenya Biology of Parasition (KENBOP) 2018 course.
Professor Jim Brewer, Professor Paul Garside, Professor Carl Goodyear, Professor Matt Marti, Dr Megan MacLeod, Dr Prescilla Ngotho, Dr Thomas Otto, Dr Emma Thomson and Prof Andy Waters participated in the course, aimed at training African early career scientists and featuring parasitology and immunology lectures as well as training in grant writing skills.
Prof Waters, Director of the WTCMP, commented: “KenBOP proved to be an excellent means to communicate with a group of young African scientists who proved to be our most impressive cohort yet. The opportunity not only allowed some valuable learning experiences, but equally provided all with the chance to build and expand their network of contacts. Our hosts at KEMRI-Wellcome were wonderful and the course was enjoyed by all”.
