Dr Tansy Hammarton hosts School Science Workshops

Dr Tansy Hammarton, Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Infection, Immunity & Inflammation, hosted a week of parasitology and microbiology workshops for pupils from local primary schools in May 2018. Over 270 primary six and seven pupils visited the labs in the Boyd Orr Building from St Joseph’s Primary, St Charles Primary, Hyndland Primary and Battlefield Primary.

This College-wide collaboration aimed to inspire pupils by introducing them to science that they may not have come across, such as parasites and other microbes. Pupils got the opportunity to cover a range of topics by rotating around five workstations, which focused on: malaria; worms; bacteria, viruses and yeast; trypanosomes and leishmania; and jelly cells.
