Learning about MOOCs in Adelaide

Image of INP colleague standing in a gardenDr Leah Marks, Lecturer in Medical Genetics in the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing, recently undertook an Erasmus Visiting Scholar trip to the University of Adelaide, ‌South Australia where she investigated their approach to MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses). Dr Marks has been involved in MOOC development in Glasgow since 2013 and is increasingly excited about the new opportunities these will bring in the future. Insights gained in Adelaide will inform strategy for both MOOC and scholarship in Glasgow in the coming months. Of particular interest to the undergraduate Medical School is the concept of using MOOCs as part of the Student Selected Components programme, something which has been trialled very successfully this academic session with the creation and first run of the MOOC ‘Basic first aid: How to be an everyday hero’ by two fourth year medical students.
