Disease Detective Workshops

In June, Dr Tansy Hammarton and a team of staff and students from the School of Life Sciences and the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation welcomed S5 and S6 School of Life Sciences and III colleagues working with school children in lab settingpupils from Bannerman High School, Bellshill Academy, Larbert, Notre Dame and St Margaret’s High Schools to the University as part of the Glasgow Science Festival. The Disease Detective workshops introduced the pupils to molecular bacteriology and parasitology techniques, asking them to identify the organisms making their patients sick. Feedback from both teachers and pupils was excellent, so many thanks to everyone involved, with a special mention for Mr David Somerville, Ms Loraine McDonald and the rest of the technical team for setting up the labs and helping them run smoothly on the day.
