New multi-million funding commitment to boost structural biology revolution

Dr David Bhella of the MRC – University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR) has secured £5m to create the Scottish Macromolecular Imaging Centre (SMIC), an innovative structural biology centre for Scotland. SMIC will be led from the CVR and is the result of collaboration between researchers from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and St Andrews. This investment is part of £11.3m in government funding, awarded through the MRC to boost structural and cell biology research, and was announced at the Royal Society by Jo Johnson, Minister of State for Universities, Science, Research and Innovation.
