Welcome to the Winter 2019 edition of the MVLS College newsletter.

At this time of year, when the festive season is fast approaching, it is wonderful to reflect on and celebrate the success driven by the excellent work across the College over the past 12 months.

Dentistry, Nursing and Veterinary Medicine were rated first in the UK and Medicine was ranked third in the UK in the 2020 Complete University Guide. Well done to everyone for your contribution towards these excellent results!

Congratulations to the Institutes of Cancer Sciences and Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences on receiving Silver Athena SWAN awards. Well done to everyone involved in this fantastic achievement.

October saw the final Glasgow Molecular Pathology Node Symposium and the College’s sixth MVLS Industry & Innovation Day take place at the Queen Elizabeth Teaching & Learning Centre, with over 250 attendees. Thank you to everyone who took time to attend and participate in both of these events.

November was a time for celebration with the 5th anniversary of the Wolfson Wohl Cancer Research Centre and the 10th anniversary of the Small Animal Hospital and the significant impact achieved to date.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to join us at College Christmas Council on 20th December and congratulations to all the winners of our 2019 awards.

Congratulations also to Professor Andrew Roe, Professor of Molecular Microbiology, Institute of Molecular, Cell and Systems Biology, who is the winner of this year's MVLS Images with Impact Competition. Andrew's entry, pictured above, entitled "Wiring Pathogens", has been transformed into this year's College Christmas card in both paper and electronic formats.

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all staff, students, industry partners and supporters for your commitment and hard work throughout 2019. I hope you all find time to enjoy a well deserved break, and I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Best wishes,

Anna
