Researchers in the Neuroscience Group and the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research, both within the Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation, are leading the ZikaPLAN (Zika Preparedness Latin American Network) program in Glasgow. ZikaPLAN is a global consortium of research and public health organisations working together to better understand and manage Zika outbreaks. ‌

The Glasgow group, including Professor Susan Barnett, Miss Stephanie Cumberworth, Dr Madeleine Cunningham, Dr Julia Edgar, Professor Alain Kohl, Dr Verena Schultz and Professor Hugh Willison, are researching the effect of Zika on both the peripheral and central nervous systems and the effects of autoimmunity.

The study, funded by the Medical Research Council and the Wellcome Trust will impact clinical care through the development of better diagnostics.
