What is the MVLS Science Den?

The Graduate School in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences (MVLS) is hosting a 'Science Den' event on Thursday 16 February 2017, where six teams of Postgraduate Students and Post-doctoral Research Staff will pitch their ideas of the perfect 'Biological Tool' to a panel of judges. Each team will have 5-minutes each to pitch. The definition of a 'Biological Tool' is open and could be one of many things including (but not confined to) an antibody, a device, an algorithm, an 'app' or a compound. The competition is open to novel ideas at any stage of development. Teams may already have a proto-type or the 'Biological Tool' may just be an evolving concept. Designs will be judged on their novelty, credibility, achievability and potential to create impact, with the winners receiving £10,000 to facilitate development of the original idea.

MVLS has over 550 PhD students studying a diverse range of topics in which Glasgow is a world leader. By hosting this event, we hope to complement the University's new Strategy to be a world-changing Institution and to promote knowledge exchange, innovation and enable academics to enhance the relevance and impact of their research. We hope to inspire our early career researchers with this exciting competition and are confident that we can unearth a concept that is worthy of development.
