Viva Voce and resubmission

You will be notified of the date, time and location of your viva voce by the exam convener or local PG Administrator. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, the viva voce will take place as a Zoom call.

Please refer to section 9 of the Postgraduate Research Student Handbook (PDF) for guidelines on the viva voce (oral) examination.

Following the oral examination, the convener and examiners will sign a joint report form that will confirm the outcome of the examination.

They will provide a list of corrections specifying the requirements and stating the timescale allowed.

You will receive an emailed letter post-viva from the Graduate School, confirming this outcome and the next steps.

Handing in my final, corrected thesis

Following your viva, you may be asked to complete a list of corrections to your thesis. When these corrections are signed off and approved by the Exam Convenor, you must send a final, corrected PDF version of your thesis to the MVLS Graduate School.

We ask, by the deadline stated on your outcome of viva letter that you:

  • Complete the Thesis Access Declaration Form (MS Word) and email this to the MVLS Graduate School.
  • Create your record on the library’s Enlighten: Thesis website. Instructions on how to create this record are provided on the University website.
  • Use the University file transfer service: to send the final, corrected PDF thesis and Thesis Access Declaration form to theses@glasgow.ac.uk.
  • Note: Electronic versions of theses under embargo/copyright restriction will not be uploaded to your record but will be securely archived by the library. Electronic receipt of the final version of the approved, final, corrected thesis will be considered sufficient for award of the degree.
  • Library staff will be able to answer any further questions on thesis upload if you have any. Email: theses@glasgow.ac.uk.
