Industry Day 2015 Speaker: Prof Murray Pittock
Murray Pittock is Pro Vice-Principal (Special Projects). Vice-Principal, Head of College of Arts from 2010-15, Murray's current duties include leading a major capital investment project bringing together Glasgow Life, National Libraries of Scotland and the University of Glasgow alongside other potential partners. Murray has worked at the universities of Manchester (where he was the first professor of Scottish literature at an English university), Edinburgh, Oxford, Aberdeen and Strathclyde, and has held visiting appointments at New York University and Yale in English, Trinity College, Dublin in History, Notre Dame in Irish Studies and Auburn in History and Equality and Diversity, as well being Czech Ministry of Education visitor to Charles University, Prague.
Murray is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and he is one of the few UK academics to be a prize lecturer of both the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the British Academy, and has acted as an external assessor for chairs and other senior university appointments on almost thirty occasions from Harvard to Jordan. He is a commentator on politics, business and current affairs, and has made around 1000 media appearances in 31 countries.
