What can be learnt from the heightened awareness of (and restrictions surrounding) touch which characterised our experience of the COVID-19 pandemic? Might the experiences of Deafblind communities, and those who rely on their sense of touch to navigate the world, aid a shared understanding of this new normal?

For Being Human 2020 the University of Glasgow is hosting a special online exhibition, co-developed and curated with the charity Deafblind Scotland, that responds creatively to the theme of touch post-COVID19. Through this innovative platform and collaboration, it aims to explore how different experiences of touch might reshape audio-visual art practices relating to senses and further inform the development of communication tools and strategies.

The ‘In Touch Workshop’ taking place on Sunday 22 November between 14:00 and 17:00 will provide an opportunity to reflect further on the exhibition’s themes.

This exhibition is presented by the College of Arts at the University of Glasgow as part of the Being Human festival, the UK’s only national festival of the humanities, taking place 12–22 November. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy.
