Glasgow was home to many of the Scottish temperance movements of the 19th and 20th centuries. In this creative writing workshop, we’ll use a range of archived materials from these movements — such as newspaper clippings, photographs and pamphlets — as inspiration for our own creative writing about alcohol. All participants will have the option to submit their writing to a one-off online journal showcasing responses to the workshop. Open to everyone; no previous writing experience required.

This event is presented by the College of Arts at the University of Glasgow as part of the Being Human festival, in partnership with The Hunterian Associates Programme and the kind support of Maryhill Burgh Hall.

Being Human is the UK’s only national festival of the humanities, taking place 12–22 November. Led by the School of Advanced Study, University of London, in partnership with the Arts and Humanities Research Council and the British Academy. For further information please see beinghumanfestival.org.
