This day-long focus group is an opportunity to spend time with - and explore the themes of - historically silenced voices; specifically, those of women, minority ethnic groups and activists, with our visiting guests from SAHO. The day centres around conviviality and informal knowledge sharing.
This is a unique opportunity to connect with key contributions from SAHO including its founder and CEO, artist and activist Omar Badsha, alongside Glasgow-based artist Tako Taal and will include a tour of Glasgow Women’s Library’s archives.
This project sits as part of a longer-term collaboration between Dr Alexandra Ross and SAHO, funded through the Global Challenges Development Fund, and the Scottish Funding Council. The broader project has been conceived in close collaboration with Simon’s Town Museum in the Western Cape, representative from which will be coming to Scotland in the early summer, coinciding with SAHO’s 20th anniversary.
Event Programme
This event is organised in two halves; the first is a more intimate round table, allowing each to share their processes, stories and, indeed, challenges, from 2.00 - 4.30 pm. Following this there will be a public screening and conversation featuring the wonderful work of Tako Taal and by Rehana Zaman, selected from the LUX archive.
Arrival 2 pm for round table discussion, this portion of the day will wrap up by 4.30, guests are then welcome to take a break from GWL or join us for a light dinner on site.
Wine will be served in the event space from 6 pm. Screenings will run from 6.30 – 8.30 pm.
Organised in collaboration by the University of Glasgow, Glasgow Women’s Library and South African History Online (SAHO).
