Laibach - London 10th of July 1998

Queen Elizabeth Hall

Milan

10th of July 1998 Laibach took part in the Festival of Central European Culture at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. It was one of the most comfortable concerts I'd been to, no long waits outside instead we were able to sit at the refreshment area and watch a video of Laibach's performance with the Slovenian orchestra. Unfortunately the video was not available for sale. It did look as if it was a broadcast so it was probably something that was shown on Slovenian television. Not much in the way of new merchandise though I did notice the poster where Laibach posed in near identical Nazi uniform but their exaggerated happy expressions blew away any accusations. Note - first picture I've seen with any Laibach members with a smile.
Soon we moved to the concert arena, which was all seated and watched Laibach open with a long intro to Final Countdown. The set was similar to the Jesus Christ Superstars tour; there was one new song Barbarians which was planned as the new single from the forthcoming album. In the middle the keyboard player (Peter Mlakar) delivered a speech. The encores were Sympathy for the Devil and Life is Life. In all an enjoyable event, I would have preferred a wider mix of Laibach songs rather than mainly just the last two albums. Hopefully it will not be too long now before they are touring again with the new album.
