My name is Mairead MacLennan and I studied accountancy. I was lucky enough to obtain a good set of exam results at school which meant I was eligible to apply for the scholarship. I initially applied as I knew that my parents would not be able to contribute financially to my studies. This was of course a worry as although I knew I would receive assistance from SAAS, I was unsure if I would be able to afford the living costs of moving away from home and supporting myself.
Benefits of being awarded the Talent Scholarship
My studies have greatly benefitted from receiving the scholarship. Studying accountancy has been a really demanding course, and receiving the scholarship has meant that I have not had to take on a part time job to help fund my studies. This has meant that I have been able to concentrate fully on my coursework and exams and as a result I have secured an excellent set of exam results – I feel that this may not have been the case if I had had to give a significant amount of my time through a part time job. The scholarship has also permitted me to purchase the necessary course materials which have been paramount to my success at university.
