Mobile Software Engineering
Student Profile
Stuart Lamont

Programme: BSc in Mobile Software Engineering.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
After graduating in the summer of 2011, I completed an internship within the computing department, which focused on multimodal feedback on mobile devices. I had also started hunting for a graduate job in the field of computing science, and within a couple of weeks I was offered a mobile application development role at a local entertainment and design firm in Glasgow called WeeWorld Inc, which is where I now currently work.
Where do you come from?
I'm originally from East Kilbride, just outside Glasgow.
What attracted you to Glasgow?
Having grown up in the area, Glasgow has always seemed like home to me, and with all its character, brilliant night life and culture, there was never going to be any other destination to study in.
What do you like about Glasgow and/or Scotland?
It has absolutely everything you'd ever need when at uni. The surrounding area of the university is such a vibrant and social place for students, its almost impossible not to feel welcome. And Glasgow's weather will always keep you on your toes!
What do you like about the University?
Situated in the west end, the university is perfectly placed to benefit from the busy social life surrounding the stylish Byres Road area, and the contrasting subdued environments found in places like Kelvingrove park and art galleries. The university has such a brilliant sense of community about it too, so there'll always be a society, club or even bar which suits you perfectly.
What do you like about the School of Computing Science and your course?
The computing industry throughout the whole country knows and respects the school as an institute which produces high quality graduates who are trained with the skills needed to succeed in business. The high involvement the school has in collaborative research with other universities really rubs off on its students too, as they benefit from learning about new and interesting research projects. My course in particular was fascinating, as it gave me a chance to do academic work which was on the very cutting edge of the global computing science research community.
What is the most interesting thing you’ve done while at the University?
The most interesting thing I did during my time at uni was the opportunity to carry out a research project and, with the help from the research staff at Glasgow, publish an academic paper documenting the work I had done.
What advice do you have for potential applicants?
Do consider Glasgow as one of your choices for studying, as you'll definitely find something you're interested in here. I had even originally planned to do psychology at university, and it wasn't till I got a taster of computing at Glasgow that made me realise that computing science was for me.
